The Map Is Back
Brazil in Australia, back on the map
The Canguaru map is back. And this time, it is much bigger.
One of the biggest parts of the Canguaru website update is a new live map for Brazilian food, businesses and services across Australia, built to make discovering what is around you much easier.
We are now tracking 300+ Brazilian businesses and places across Australia, with more than 70 Brazilian dishes in the database, from coxinha and pão de queijo to feijoada, churrasco, brigadeiro, acarajé and much more.
And this is where it gets useful.
The map is connected to the Canguaru filters. Choose a state, type of business, service or food and the results on the map change as you filter.
Our individual guides work the same way. Open the Coxinha in Australia guide, for example, and you get a map dedicated to places where we have found coxinha. Change the filters and you can narrow those results by state and business type.
This is part of a massive update happening across Canguaru, from the visual identity and navigation to the search, maps, filters, event pages and the way all of these listings connect to each other.
The goal has not changed: make Brazilian Australia easier to discover.
Free to list. Free to promote. Free to browse.
Canguaru will keep growing as a free guide for the community and for the businesses, organisers and people making Brazilian culture happen around Australia.

Divino Samba is bringing out the bateria
If you are going to Divino Samba 4th Edition this Saturday, there is a new reason to get excited.
For the first time, Divino Samba will debut its official bateria, bringing percussionists together and adding another layer of energy to a roda that already knows how to make Casa do Benfica shake.
This fourth edition has been building for months, bringing together sambistas, friends and a crowd that comes not just to hear samba, but to sing it, dance it and be part of it.
And now we are at the point where there is not much time left to decide.

Melbourne sold out. Sydney and Brisbane are next.
Brazilian composer and multi-instrumentalist Alcides Neto is taking his debut album Amú on the road, and the tour is already making noise.
Tonight’s Melbourne launch at The JazzLab is officially sold out, leaving two more chances to catch the seven-piece band this week: Sydney tomorrow night and Brisbane on Saturday.
Released earlier this year, Amú is an eight-track journey through the landscapes, traditions, family connections and memories Alcides left behind in Brazil, while looking forward to the life being built on the other side of the world.
The album moves between Brazilian folk traditions, samba, bossa nova, jazz and contemporary Brazilian music, carried by Alcides’ percussive guitar playing and warm vocals. It has already picked up attention, including, including PBS FM Album of the Week and a place among Bandcamp’s Best Latin releases of March.

Brazil of Erased Letters comes to Sydney
Not every Brazilian story was forgotten. Some were erased.
On 5 and 6 September, Brazil of Erased Letters takes over the Brazilian Cultural Centre in Marrickville for two days exploring memory, identity and the histories that have too often been pushed outside Brazil’s official narrative.
Through music, cinema, photography, literature, food, dance, workshops and conversation, the project brings those stories back into the room and creates space for artists, researchers and cultural voices from Brazil and Australia to connect them with the present.
One of the major moments of the weekend will be Sérgio Pererê performing in Australia for the first time.
Pererê’s work is deeply connected to Afro-Brazilian identity, ancestry, oral tradition and the cultural memory of Minas Gerais, bringing those influences into a contemporary musical language built across more than three decades of work.
Across two extraordinary days, the programme brings together music, cinema, photography, literature, food, dance, workshops and conversations in a powerful celebration of the stories, voices and cultural memories that refuse to disappear.
This is a landmark gathering for Brazilian culture in Australia — a rare opportunity to experience an ambitious, deeply moving programme of artists and ideas in one place. Brazil of Erased Letters is not simply an event to attend; it is a moment to witness, share and remember.
