Gildo here. Gilsons kick off their first Australian tour tonight, with Sydney, Gold Coast, Brisbane and Melbourne on the run over the next few days. Maitê Inaê joins them for tonight’s opening show at the Metro, and you’ll meet another side of her later in this edition with Selvagem Soul, a new Brazil–Australia band that has just released its debut single.

Gilsons begin their first Australian tour tonight
A son and two grandsons of Gilberto Gil, one stage, and a sound moving through MPB, samba, reggae and rock. Gilsons begin their first Australian tour tonight in Sydney, before heading to the Gold Coast, Brisbane and Melbourne over the next few days.
Opening the tour with them tonight at the Metro is Sydney-raised vocalist Maitê Inaê. Keep her name in mind, because later in this edition we’re introducing another project she fronts: Selvagem Soul, a new Brazil–Australia band that has just released its debut single.

Next Weekend Kids Day with Cria do Samba & Beliza
A proper Brazilian family afternoon on the Northern Beaches: six hours of live music, food and drinks at the Time and Tide Hotel, with a playground, jumping castle and hair braiding for the kids.
Beliza opens with Brazilian pop, samba-rock and soul, before Cria do Samba takes over with a samba circle from 6pm. Kids under 12 get in free.

Featured Artist: Selvagem Soul
If Maitê Inaê’s name is still fresh from the Gilsons story above, here’s the other project you should know.
Selvagem Soul is a new band with one foot in São Paulo and one in Sydney. THi came out of the Augusta Street club scene in São Paulo and now writes and sings in Portuguese from Sydney. Maitê Inaê brings the vocals, Doc Proctor (Quarteracre, Little Aida) holds the bass, and producer and turntablist KlevaOne stitches it together on Rhodes and MPC.
The sound moves between bossa, 60s psychedelia, funk and trip-hop, with a distinctly Brazilian thread running through it.
Their debut single, A Maré, is out now on Casa Tropica Records, with a video on YouTube.
