Joabe Reis brings Brazilian jazz/funk to Australia
Brazilian trombonist and producer Joabe Reis kicks off his Australian tour in Sydney tonight with the first local edition of DEJAVU Session, joining forces with Jazz Doof at the Brazilian Cultural Centre.
Joabe is part of Brazil’s new wave of jazz, mixing trombone-led improvisation with hip-hop, neo-soul, funk and pop. His work connects Brazilian groove with big jazz energy, with credits and collaborations linked to names like Toninho Horta, Bob Mintzer, Theo Croker and Elliot Mason.

Tonight’s Sydney show brings Joabe Reis together with Jazz Doof, the local collective powering the jam session, with Brazilian-Australian multi-instrumentalist Lux Trevis in the mix alongside DJs Total Eclipse and LEVOS.
Expect Brazilian jazz, hip-hop, funk, improvisation and big live instrumental energy.

Kids Birthday Parties at Pacheco Jiu-Jitsu
With Mother’s Day coming up, family-friendly plans are probably on the radar for a lot of parents. Alongside the upcoming Cria do Samba and Between Us Band gig in Dee Why, which includes a Canguaru discount, here’s another one worth saving:
Pacheco Jiu-Jitsu in Warriewood now offers kids birthday parties built around movement, games and supervised fun.
Pacheco is already a trusted name for many Northern Beaches families, helping kids build confidence, discipline, coordination and self-defence skills through Jiu-Jitsu training.
Their kids program is designed for different ages and skill levels, with a focus on safety, teamwork, respect, perseverance and keeping kids active in a supportive environment.

Now, they’re also giving families a birthday party option that gets the kids moving, keeps everything structured, and takes some weight off parents’ shoulders, especially if you’d rather avoid hosting the chaos at home.

For Brazilian Businesses
This week’s quick fix: own your main business link
If your business depends only on Instagram, you are building on rented land. And in this economy, we all know the less you depend on landlords, the better.

Instagram is not your whole business
Your posts may not reach people, your bio link may not explain enough, and new customers still need to dig through your feed or send a DM just to understand your services, location, opening hours or prices.
A good first step is to create two basic digital assets: a Google Business Profile and a simple landing page using your own .com.au domain. It does not need to be a huge website.
Start with one clear page showing what you offer, where you are, who you help, how to contact you, your Google Maps link, reviews or testimonials, and a few strong photos.
Then use that page everywhere:
Instagram bio
WhatsApp auto-reply
Google Business Profile
Flyers
Email signature
Canguaru listing
This gives customers one trusted place to check your business, and it gives Google, AI search tools like ChatGPT and Perplexity, and recommendation algorithms clearer signals that your business is real, active and connected to a location.
This is one of the first steps to help those systems understand when your business is relevant enough to show or mention to the right audience. More practical tips coming in the next newsletter editions.
